Biography

A native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, John Ennis is a nationally recognized artist. His paintings have brought him numerous awards, locally, nationally and internationally, and are included in many private and institutional collections across the United States and abroad.

His art studies began at age twelve, with lessons at a local gallery surrounded by the works of the famous Bucks County Impressionists. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, he moved to New York City to study painting at the Art Students League of New York. He considers this a seminal moment in his career, taking classes with painters whose art training had been passed down through generations of teachers dating back to the French Academy of the nineteenth century.

While still a student John began illustrating for book publishers and came to enjoy an international reputation as a book cover artist, his work published in over 26 countries. With well over a thousand published book cover illustrations to his credit, he would eventually abandon this career to devote himself entirely to the fine arts.

In the last few years he has won over a dozen prestigious awards, most recently receiving First Place from the Portrait Society of America in their Self- Portrait Competition. He has been the subject of several feature articles in magazines and newspapers. His portraits grace the walls of institutions like Massachusetts General Hospital and Cephalon Inc, as well as the homes of many families across the country.
