Biography

Annelies van Dommelen has been a painter. printmaker, and "Maker of Things" for as long as she remembers. Annelies is a prolific artist who is always exploring new forms of expression in oils, watercolor monotypes, stone lithography, etching, collography, embossing, construction of handmade paper, artists books, and hand crafted archival boxes.

Her style is a very spontaneous eruption, sometimes of great complexity, sometimes a theme begins the story. The goal is to find what is interesting and what works with the whole by editing and additions.

The themes born from van Dommelen's creativity are concerned with energy, places of rest, walking, travel, flying, floating, catching, waiting, support, enclosure and fleetings. There is a strong connection with nature in form, color, and elegance, Not to repeat the real but to capture the essence of what exists in a different form.

Annelies van Dommelen has received numerous awards, fellowships and grants; She studied at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, New York Graduate School for figurative art, and privately with recognized artists in specialized mediums.

Annelies Van Dommelen is one of the area's most well know artists.

Artist Statement

"I let it drip and I do energetic swashes of color. Things start to happen and to come out as I go along and I start to lay things in. I find things in the paint and make them visible to the world. For me, painting is unexplained accidents waiting to be recognized."
